Durango is the only full-size SUV that Dodge’s lineup has. It is currently in its third generation and new model, 2015 Dodge Durango, will be carried over for now, since it is expected that it might soon shift generations again.
Under the Hood and Performance
Durango is offered in five grades including base SXT, SXT Plus, Limited, R/T and top of the line Citadel. They come with either 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine which puts up 290 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, or with much bigger 5.7L HEMI V8 engine which has 360 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. Depending on a model, you’ll get either RWD or 4WD, and gearbox can be 5, 6 or 8-speed automatic. Leader in towing is R/T model with figure of 7,400 pounds.
2015 Dodge Durango Design
From the outside, all of them look pretty much the same. Dodge’s trademark crossed grille has a lot of chrome in it, just like lower air intake and side door step have. At the back, Durango has a small rear quarter window and thick pillars, while tail-lights are connected via light bridge instead of a chrome garnish.
Durango’s interior feels substantial and refined, with three rows of seats and room for up to seven people. Last row, however is hard to access and doesn’t offer enough room for bigger passengers. All black cabin is trimmed with some chrome accents and blue inlets, but additional options can be expected when new model comes to the dealers. Roundy dash has a chrome-bound instrument panel which comes with either 5-inch or 8.4-inch Uconnect touch screen display. Rotary shifter leaves some space for your trinkets in the center stack which also features two cupholders.
7-inch TFT gauge screen can be customized in order for it to show the most relevant info at your own desire. Dual front, side and curtain airbags are standard on all Durango models, and so are anti-lock brakes, and traction and stability control. Upper tiers add a rearview camera, blind-spot warning system, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control and a forward-collision warning system.
Strong engines usually take their toll, especially if the vehicle in question is a full-sizer. Base engine can take you up to 18/25 mpg or 17/24 mpg with RWD and 4WD respectively. Opt for a HEMI engine and watch your fuel eficiency numbers drop to 14/23 mpg.
2015 Dodge Durango Price details
Most affordable Durango is SXT model which costs around $30,000, while the most expensive Citadel model’s price starts from $41,000. 4WD upgrade costs $2,400 and can be had across the lineup.
2015 Dodge Durango is a very good choice if you desire nice flowing exterior lines and refined interior. However, Dodge should consider adding diesel option to the lineup as fuel economy ratings are dismal with now-available V6 and V8 engines.
