The 2015 Ford Fusion Hybrid is a new item in Ford’s range of cars. Previously, the Fusion was a car based on an US platform while currently, the car is actually based on the 2014 Mondeo. Because of this, now it only has turbocharged engines (except for the base unit which will be a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder with 175 horsepower). The hybrid version will have two modes, plug-in hybrid and hybrid.
The Engine and Performance
The powerhouse in the hybrid Fusion will be a 2 liter Atkinson-cycle engine mated to an electric unit. Thanks to the fact that you also have batteries on-board (Ford hasn’t specified yet, but we expect to have around 8 kWh worth of batteries), you will be able to use the car in electric mode for as much as 25 miles. More than enough for some people’s daily commute. The battery pack can be recharged overnight at a 110V outlet in around 7 hours or at a 230V outlet in around 2 hours. The car’s combined power will be 141 horsepower and 129 lb-ft of torque.
The economy will be great! Thanks to the fact that the car can run strictly on its batteries, you won’t use any fuel for the 25 miles (except around 1$ worth of electricity). While using the petrol engine, you will be able to achieve around 47 MPG while on the highway and at least 35 MPG while in the city. Great numbers for a car this big.
Styling – Outside and Inside look
The exterior will be very similar to that of the 2014 Mondeo, with its striking front design and great stance. The only differences you will see in the wheel that will have tires made for fuel consumption rather than speed and probably, redesigned front and rear spoiler with different mirrors to improve the car’s drag coefficient.
The interior of the car will be on par with the top-end models. You will get ventilated and heated electric leather seats, satellite navigation with a 7 inch screen, superior quality sound system. As options you will be able to choose moon-roof, seats with integrated massage system, ventilated and heated steering wheel and rear view camera. The base price is expected to be around the 35 thousand dollars mark. A fair price for such a car.
2015 Ford Fusion Hybrid Release date
The car is expected to hit the market somewhere around the start of September. It will come as a top model of the Fusion line and you will be able to get it with a fast-recharge system, that will recharge your Fusion from a 110V outlet in less than 1 and a half hours.
