As we all know, Tesla is one of the biggest electric car manufacturers in the world. They are currently making the Model S and plan to expand their roster with the 2015 Tesla Model X. They plan to release this brand new electric vehicle somewhere around the late summer, this year. It will come at a base price of around 60.000$, which is not that much for this type of car.
2015 Tesla Model X Engine
The Model X will come with two choices regarding the engine. The first is the 60 kWh model that comes with rear wheel drive only and features a single electric motor on the back axle. This will produce around 300 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. The other model is the more powerful one, with a bigger 85 kWh battery and two engines, one in the front and one in the rear. This car will develop around 400 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque that will go to an all wheel drive system.
Transmission and fuel consumption
The only transmission choice is a single speed unit capable of delivering all the torque to the ground. It is very smooth, mainly because has only one gear, making the acceleration to feel like there’s a train behind you. The equivalent fuel consumption is very low. The car is rated at more than 100 eMPG! It is capable of travelling with the smaller 60 kWh battery up to 210 miles which is pretty good, but the 85 kWh battery will give you an expected range of 270 miles!
2015 Tesla Model X Interior and Exterior
The car features single seats for all the passengers, adding to the sporty feel of the car. The interior has a very nice leather upholstery as standard and the interior equipment is great. All the seats are ventilated and heated and have a really nice comfortable shape. The instrument cluster has been replaced by an LCD screen while all the controls of the AC, radio and all the car’s functions have been replaced with a 17″ touch screen. This will also give detailed information about the car’s electric system and it will act as a computer with Internet access.
The car follows the CUV/SUV dimension. Its ground clearance and the muscular look add to a very appealing design. It comes as standard with 18″ wheels and all season tires. The biggest surprise on this car though are the doors. The ones from the rear open up just as the Gull-wing doors, giving the 2015 Tesla Model X a very striking look that is really hard to overlook!
