One of the biggest SUV is new 2016 Audi Q7. Audi are consolidating their lineup these couple of years or so, and next year brings us a number of new models. One of these is full-size crossover, Q7 as well, which will offer a number of new powertrains, together with entirely new body. Thanks to these changes, Q7 is bound to become one of the most exciting crossovers in four circle’s line.
Under the Hood
New Q7 carries over with 3.0L supercharged V6 engine which develops 333 horsepower, and gets 3.0L turbo diesel V6 which puts up 272 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. If conventional models aren’t up your alley, plug-in hybrid model arrives later on. E-tron quattro model will be powered with first diesel-plug-in combination in the U.S. 258-horsepower diesel V6 is mated with an electric motor and together, they generate hefty 373 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque.
Like most of Audi’s, Q7 will also be tied exclusively to 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission with manual control, and every model will be quattro, all-wheel driven.
2016 Audi Q7 Design and Changes
Apart from new powertrains, biggest change is in body manufacturing language. 2016 Audi Q7 is more than 700 pounds lighter than previous generation models and difference is felt from the get-go. Thanks to this, new Q7 looks more carlike and moves accordingly as well. New grille is heavier and wider, while headlamps are completely angular. Rear end is also sharper and offers large bumper and trapezoid tail-lights. Roofline is now lower which is one of the reasons why crossover is more carlike, and this might make some problems for rear passengers.
And when we say rear passengers, we mean third-row passengers. However, rest of the car is quite comfortable and exquisitely refined; just like every high-end Audi is. Interior has been redesigned and cabin is now more contemporary. Dashboard has been downsized, and there are only audio controls on it now, apart from airvents. Rest of the controls have been moved to the high, sturdy middle tunnel which divides the cabin in two.
Touch screen is now of floating variety and pops out of the dash upon car’s startup. Leather and natural wood are here as always, but there are other options as well, like aluminum veneers or perforated leather seats. Needless to say, 2016 Audi Q7 is fitted with most of advanced electronic systems and serves as mobile office of premium quality thanks to 4G LTE internet connection. Safety features are highly advanced as well and include cross-traffic assist, adaptive cruise control with stop and go functions and other features.
2016 Audi Q7 Price and Release date
Needless to say, fuel efficiency will be increased throughout the line, and plug-in model will offer the best figures, naturally. Numbers should span from low twenties to high thirties overall which is quite a wide span, but then again, so are available engines as well. Just like it is the case now, most models should be available for between $50,000 and $70,000.
2016 Audi Q7 is an updated version of German manufacturer’s large luxury crossover, and term updated is an understatement. New Q7 definitely deserves next-gen badge as it has new design language and new parts in almost every segment.
