While the ATS has been around since the late 2012, it never really had a high performance model even though the V-Sport offered quite a good 3.6 liter 321 horsepower V6. Luckily though, the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V Coupe has been announced and it is going to hit the market by the end of 2015.
2016 Cadillac ATS-V Price
Even though the pricing hasn’t been announced it is safe to assume that it won’t cost more than 55.000 dollars in its base form considering all of its competitors are hovering that price point. Just like the ATS Coupe, it is going to be based on the sedan model and it will also be available in sedan form, which means it might just be the competitor for the M3 and M4 from BMW.
Changes and Engine options
Changes over the standard model are going to include a brand new engine which has been released this year on the new CTS, a tuned chassis as well as a different running gear. This will include 18 inch light alloy wheels as standard, Brembo brakes all around the car, adjustable suspension which will have five or six different presents for the stiffness of the shock absorbers. On top of all that, the new ATS-V will also get a revised styling with influences from its bigger brother, the CTS-V.
The chassis, just like with their other models, has been tuned in Germany to offer the best possible experience. This will be handy because under the hood will sit a very different engine than what you might expect. Most people said a V8 will surely power it but it is not a certainty that the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V Coupe is going to use a twin-turbocharged 3.6 liter V6 designated as the LF4, which is just the evolution of the LF3 found in the V-Sport CTS. This will be good for up to 455 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque which is more than enough to get the car from 0 to 60 MPH in under 4 seconds and up to a maximum top speed of just over 180 MPH, making it faster than the ongoing sports saloons.
Unlike what most said, it will only be available in rear wheel drive which is perfect for a sports car. The engine is going to be mated to a 6 speed manual as standard while an eight speed automatic coming from the Corvette is going to be optional. The later should also decrease the 0 to 60 MPH time to around 3.7 seconds, making it faster than the competition.
Styling – Inside and Outside
On the interior, it will be a real Cadillac with standard features such as leather upholstery, leather wrapped steering wheel and dashboard and a lot of equipment. This will include satellite navigation, which is quite poor but this might get changed at a later date, dual zone automatic climate control, rear view camera, an infotainment system and even internet connectivity. The seats are going to be electric and modular to offer the best seating experience there is. A panoramic roof is going to be available on the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V Coupe, but only as an optional extra.
On the exterior, just as we said before, it will feature 18 inch wheels with the possibility of upgrading to 19 inch wheels. There are also rumors about an optional carbon-ceramic braking system which would cost around 7000 dollars! Besides these, the look of the Coupe is roughly the same as that on the normal ATS but with a twist. It is now featuring a new wider body-kit with bigger air intakes at the front, LED headlights, a bulge on the hood which serves as a fresh air intake and also a small rear spoiler and diffuser which are going to help it a lot at speeds above 160 MPH.
