Ford has recently announced the new top-of-the-line model for their full-size pickup. 2016 Ford F-150 Limited will, thus dethrone King Ranch and Platinum models from the top spot and offer even bigger level of refinement. Even those models are rather expensive and luxurious, but Limited grade of the F-150 is dubbed as a true luxury pickup truck.
The Engine range
Just like the mentioned models, 2016 Ford F-150 Limited will be offered exclusively with stronger duo of powertrains. This means that 2.7L EcoBoost V-6 and normally aspirated 3.5L V-6 are out. Instead, luxury pickup will offer 3.5L EcoBoost V-6 with 365 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque, and 5.0L naturally aspirated V-8 making 385 hp and 387 lb-ft of torque. Both rear and all-wheel drive will be offered, however, and 6-speed automatic transmission will be carried over as well.
|Torque @ RPM||420|
|Engine & Energy||V6 – 2WD-4WD;Twin-Turbocharged|
|0-60 time||7.5 sec. (Est.)|
|Top Speed||125 mph (Est.)|
|Horsepower @ RPM||365|
Design – Inside and Outside look
Most of F-150 Limited’s exterior is covered in satin chrome which means that the truck is not really intended for off-road driving. Frontal fascia is the same as with other models, but mentioned satin chrome finish clearly distances it from conventional trucks. Headlamps are bound in yellow paint, and there’s a Platinum decal just at hood’s end. Large 22-inch, wide 6-spoke chrome wheels are no mean feat either, while tailgate comes with even more chrome and even more Limited lettering.
As it usually is the case with top level tiers, 2016 Ford F-150 Limited will be exclusively offered with the largest crew cab configuration and the smallest five and a half, and six and a half bed lengths.
If F-150’s exterior doesn’t look as inspiring to you, interior is supposed to leave you speechless. Still, even though Limited model’s materials are both new and even more refined, interior finish doesn’t bring the level of luxury or new elements which people had expected. Mojave leather seats do look softer than that is the case with lower tiers, and there’s the real Eucalyptus wood trim to further raise pickup’s appeal. Large armrest even features the chromed VIN plate with laser-engraved production number among other info.
These, however, are only decorative details and don’t really have any significant purpose. Cabin layout is generally carried over from other models and 2016 Ford F-150 Limited is still as heavy looking and intimidating as ever. Feature list is generally carried over from the top models. 8-inch touch screen display is standard, and so are all the features that usually go with it, including the navigation. Sony audio system is also standard, and so is HD radio. Both front and rear seat heaters are standard as well, and so are front ventilated seats.
Safety features are usually on the low end in pickup trucks still. 2016 Ford F-150 Limited, however, offers a full set of airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control, trailer-sway control, brake assist, standard 360-degree view camera, blind-spot monitor, active park assist and adaptive cruise control.
2016 Ford F-150 Limited Price and MPG
Fuel economy ratings will remain on the same level as they currently are with King Ranch and Platinum grades; if they don’t deteriorate further due to vehicle’s additional weight. Twin-turbo V-6’s figures will stand at 17/24 mpg with rear and 17/23 mpg with all-wheel drive. Larger, 5.0L engine will return 15/22 mpg with the rear-wheel drive and 15/21 mpg if you require both axles to be active. When it becomes available, expect it to cost somewhere in the region of $60,000.
Competitors: GMC Sierra 1500 Denali and Ram 1500 Laramie Limited.
2016 Ford F-150 Limited is intended as a city-friendly and rather lazy (when it comes to tough work) full-size pickup. It pushes the limit of luxury in pickup trucks to the new level which is currently unavailable otherwise. There are a lot of luxury options across the number of different pickup truck nameplates and badges, but Ford F-150 Limited adds those small details which make it rather unique.
