Which vehicle is nicer?
Let’s start our comparison with the 2016 Ford Escape because the car has just been released on the US market as a refreshed version of the older model rather than an all new car as we expected it. It features the same platform and roughly the same engines than before but this also means that it offers that great look which many people started to love.
Its interior is one of the biggest selling point of this car because the Escape comes with a more European touch to it. The dashboard has a really nice design, the base equipment level is quite good and the materials are certainly above the average. As standard it gets a multifunctional steering wheel, Ford’s Sync infotainment system which works quite nicely as well as a leather covered steering wheel and gear changing lever.
2016 Honda CR-V vs 2016 Ford Escape – Engine
Engine wise, the Escape comes with three different engines. The base model is a 2.5 liter naturally aspirated inline 4 which is good for just 168 horsepower and little over 170 lb-ft of torque. The economical option is a smaller 1.6 liter EcoBoost inline 4 which is a bit more powerful at 178 horsepower and more than 180 lb-ft of torque as well as more efficient being able to return well over 30 MPG on the highway.
The top of the range model on the other hand is available with a 2 liter EcoBoost inline 4 with 240 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque which also happens to be one of the most powerful engines in its class. A 6 speed manual is available on the lower end models while the top tier levels and the 2 liter engine come equipped with a 6 speed automatic. In any case though, front wheel drive is standard while all wheel drive is only available as an option.
The other contestant of the 2016 Honda CR-V vs 2016 Ford Escape comparison is a bit more different. The CR-V looks completely different than the Ford which is great for everyone because it means customers have a nice alternative to the Ford. The front end looks quite futuristic with the V-shaped grille and long and slim headlights while the general look makes it seem more like a people carrier rather than a hatchback which is likely to appeal at the older people out there.
Honda CR-V Specs
Under the hood of the CR-V there is only a single engine option which is a bit of a shame. However, it is a 2.4 liter naturally aspirated, direct injected inline 4 which is more than enough for this car. The engine is capable of 184 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque and it can be had with front or all wheel drive.
The only transmission of choice is a CVT which is much better than the average and thanks to it, the CR-V can return up to 27 MPG in the city and 34 MPG on the highway which is actually even better than the 1.6 liter engine of the Escape. The downside is that the gearbox is quite slow and the engine is not as potent as the 2 liter version of the Escape.
