The current model of the LaCrosse has been launched back in 2009 so it would only be natural for GM to release a new model to replace the aging car. The 2017 Buick LaCrosse has been confirmed to release at the end of November 2015 at the Los Angeles Auto Show and the production model will likely be launched some time in the first half of 2016.
The car will make use of the all new E2XX platform which it will share with the European Insignia and the new Malibu. However, unlike the Malibu, the LaCrosse will get the stretched version of the platform which has been confirmed to be used on the Insignia as well.
2017 Buick LaCrosse Design
Just as we said, the design of the new 2017 Buick LaCrosse will be something fresh for the US market. The profile of the car looks to be a lot more athletic than before with a lower roof, a longer hood and a shorter back end, similar to what the current four-door coupe cars have. The contour of the back windows and its tail lights also look to be quite similar to those on the Insignia but the front is quite a bit more different with new LED headlights and the usual 3 intakes on the front fenders.
Inside the cabin the car will receive a lot of upgrades which will make it one of the more luxurious and comfortable ones in its class. There will be more room despite the fact the roof will be lower thanks to the longer wheelbase and the wider body. The rear seats will also get more legroom and headroom and a special model for the Chinese market with only four seats is also a real possibility.
As standard the car will come with all the usual safety features such as active cruise control, frontal collision warning and even rear cross-path detection and it will also get commodities such as climate control, an 8 inch infotainment unit and heated or ventilated front seats.
Under the Hood
Engine wise, the new 2017 Buick LaCrosse is going to be a bit more interesting than the model it is replacing. The base model will not get the old 2.4 liter inline 4 but rather a newly developed 2 liter turbocharged inline 4 which is expected to be offered in two different outputs. The base model will offer around 200 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque while the more expensive model will bump that to 275 horsepower and over 280 lb-ft of torque. Front wheel drive will be standard and both of them will likely get GM’s upcoming 9 speed automatic gearbox.
A high performance version of it has also been rumored. It seems that this particular model would get a 3.6 liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine which first debuted on the ATS. However, in the LaCrosse, it would likely make around 380 to 400 horsepower and up to 400 lb-ft of torque. This would get an 8 speed automatic instead of the usual 9 speed unit and all wheel drive as standard as well as beefier brakes and a tweaked suspension system which will be required in order to handle all that extra power.
2017 Buick LaCrosse Price
These are big news, especially since the previous Insignia was quite a bit smaller than the LaCrosse. So far GM released a couple of teasing images about the new model which show the profile of the upcoming car as well as part of its front end and its grille.
Besides these, the new model will get an all new design inside and out and its engines will be vastly different than those of the current model. The price will likely hover between $32,000 and $45,000 for a fully equipped premium model. Finally, the new 2017 Buick LaCrosse will debut at Los Angeles Auto Show, 18. November.
The biggest competitors are LINCOLN MKZ and ACURA TLX.
