The latest edition, 2017 Cadillac CT2 is new a compact sedan. CT2 doesn’t arrive before 2017, that’s for certain. Still, that’s not a long time to wait for one of Cadillac’s new generation vehicles. After they unveiled CT6 this year, GM’s luxury division will market a number of additional models next year, or even later this one.
In any case, 2017 Cadillac CT2 will be Caddy’s second compact sedan after they just recently introduced ATS. It remains to be seen whether CT2 will replace ATS or will couple of compact sedans manage to coexist?
2017 Cadillac CT2 Engine
For starters, CT2 will most likely be offered with 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine which is capable of making 272 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Numbers, however, might be downgraded a bit in order to leave ATS slightly stronger. Furthermore, CT2 might come with even smaller engine, but that unit is hard to pinpoint at this time.
In any case, it seems that car will ride on rear wheels which will make it rather unique in its segment. There’s hardly a better way to introduce a new car then to give it some special feature to serve as an eye-poker.
Design – Inside and Outside look
Design-wise, 2017 Cadillac CT2 is supposed to offer pretty much the same framework as current ATS. Of course, there’s a possibility that CT2 will slot below ATS, and as that get slightly shrunken body compared to its role model. However, Cadillac’s new generation design language will be ever-present. This translates to Large grille and thin, upswept headlamps up front, and Caddy’s trademark thin, vertical tail-lamps around the back. Furthermore, CT2 will either get slightly shorter wheelbase or shorter overhang in order to meet more compact requirements.
2017 Cadillac CT2 will likely be on-par with ATS in terms of interior refinement as well. Even though cabin will be slightly smaller, comfort won’t be that much different. In true Cadillac’s tradition, all CT2 models will be offered with leather upholstery and they’ll offer wood accents and leather-covered surfaces throughout the cabin. As far as tech features are concerned, 4.2-inch display should be enough for all audio tasks, but there’s always optional 8-inch touch screen display with navigation if standard one seems too small for you.
There’s also Bose premium surround sound 10-speaker system to complete the atmosphere. Safety features include a rearview camera, blind spot monitors, automatic braking, rear cross traffic alert and adaptive cruise control but you’ll require driver assistance package to get them.
2017 Cadillac CT2 Price & MPG
Since 2017 Cadillac CT2 will only get rear-wheel drive configuration, it should offer fuel efficiency figures of 21 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. Of course, provided that it actually gets ATS’ 2.0L turbo four engine. CT2’s price should start from around $30,000 and rise towards $45,000 mark with all included options.
2017 Cadillac CT2 will become the smallest Caddy sedan ever, and only four years after GM luxury brand introduced their very first compact sedan. Downsizing seems to be a buzzword in car markets these days and powertrain downsizing isn’t the only thing manufacturers can do. CT2 is a perfect example of that statement.
Mercedes CLA-Class and Audi A3 Sedan are the biggest rivals of this car.
