2017 Cadillac XT5

The first official photos of the new 2017 Cadillac XT5 are available, finally. It’s a known fact that Cadillac plans on refurbishing its entire lineup in coming years, and after CT6 sedan which was already presented, next one could be 2017 Cadillac XT5. Mid-size crossover comes as a replacement for SRX and it might be unveiled at this year’s LA Auto Show.

2017 Cadillac XT5 Engine range

3.6L V-6 is a standard engine for pretty much any mid-size crossover and why would future Caddy XT5 be any different. After all, its direct predecessor, SRX, still features the same engine. Still, fresh model would require refreshed powertrain and expect slightly updated version of V-6 which should generate more power than 308 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque which it currently delivers.

Furthermore, smaller 2.7L turbocharged V-6 might also find its way to the lineup as an option – if not straightaway, then at least later. Of course, both front and all-wheel drive will be offered and 6-speed automatic transmission shouldn’t be changed for now.

Design – Spy photos

Outside look

Thanks to heavy camouflage, spy shots still don’t tell us much. 2017 Cadillac XT5 should be more inspiring when it comes to exterior design. Even though SRX looks good, it’s somewhat bland for a luxury badge which it carries. XT5 should be perkier and more contemporary in order to elevate its predecessor’s appeal to the next level. As part of Cadillac’s future vehicle design, expect thinner and more upswept headlamps, more upright grille and updated rear end tailgate with signature Caddy’s vertical tail-lights.

Interior

Interior is also bound to go through some changes, but don’t expect anything that you haven’t seen already. Crossover might get revised cabin and even all-new materials, but it will still be luxurious and spacious as it always was. Instead of Raven Sapele wood trim, expect some other type of fancy name for natural wood accents.

Base models should keep their leatherette seats, while top models would be unimaginable without full-leather seats. 8-inch display will remain standard from the get-go, and so will most of other connectivity options including Bluetooth, USB ports and power outlets, while navigation remains optional on all but top tier. Bose delivers sound through standard 8-speaker system or premium 10-speaker surround system.

Heated and ventilated front seats can only be had with Luxury and above trim levels, while Standard grade can’t even get them through optional packages. Finally, top models even offer rear seat DVD entertainment system with dual 8-inch screens and Blu-Ray compatibility.

2017 Cadillac XT5 Price and MPG

Just like current RSX, 2017 Cadillac XT5 is supposed to return similar, if not the same fuel economy numbers. this means 17/24 or 16/23 mpg depending on whether you choose front or available all-wheel drive.

Prices should start from around $38,000 for entry-level models which are rather bare-boned compared to luxury lineup. Top Premium grades, however, mandate a price tag of at least $50,000.

2017 Cadillac XT5 should refresh somewhat outdated RSX and become one of the first models to reflect GM luxury brand’s new naming strategy. It shouldn’t, however, offer anything out of the ordinary, and is supposed to be a true luxury mid-size crossover with both of its feet on the ground.

The biggest competitors are Audi Q5 and BMW X3.
