2017 Chevrolet Silverado – first spy photos

The latest truck by GM, 2017 Chevrolet Silverado has been spotted on test driving, near Michigan. The Silverado is one of the best selling vehicles on the US market being just behind Ford’s F-150 truck. Unlike the F-150 though, the GM offering doesn’t come with a fancy aluminum body or even with turbocharged fuel efficient engines but this did not stop its customers from getting one, especially when the Silverado, despite having some obvious shortcomings, still is one of the most reliable, comfortable and capable trucks in the World.

In order to remain as good as before, a new model will be released with the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado which will be the first major update since then truck was released nearly three years ago.

What’s new for 2017?

Unfortunately, this new model will still not come with the aluminum body everyone was expecting but it will add a lot of new features and upgrades to the truck which are meant to make it more capable and a lot more efficient than before.

Redesign – Interior & Exterior

The exterior design of the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado will retain most of its new front-end design which has been updated for the 2016MY. However, while the grille, xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lights and its front bumper will be carried over unchanged, its front fenders and hood will likely be updated. In fact, this time around, the entire front end of the truck, front of the A-pillars, is expected to be made out of aluminum.

This would not only offer a better weight distribution but it would also drop its weight by around 50 to 100 pounds which should be enough to improve its fuel consumption and performance by a small margin.

Refined Interior

Inside the cabin, the new Silverado will most definitely carry over the same interior of the ongoing version, albeit, with a few changes made to it. Here, the truck will likely receive a new infotainment system with a better interface as well as a more powerful hardware while inside the armrest, it should feature a new wireless charging system that its passengers will be able to use to charge their phones or tablets.

The Engine range & Improvements

The most exciting update expected on the new 2017 Chevrolet Silverado is going to be under the hood where rumors say the truck is going to receive an all new engine. The base naturally aspirated 4.3 liter V6 or the 6.2 liter V8 should be carried over unchanged. However, the 5.3 liter V8, one of the most criticized engines out there for being just too inefficient for its power rating, is likely going to be discontinued. It seems that in its place, GM will offer an all new engine for their entire truck and heavy-duty SUV lineup, a new twin-turbocharged V6 that will offer more power and torque than the V8, all while being more efficient.

Some people said that the 3 liter twin-turbo V6 of the Cadillac ATS would make a lot of sense in a truck and we would have to agree. This would not only offer 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque but it would also be able to be at least 20 to 30% more efficient than the old V8.

A 3.6 liter twin-turbocharged V6 has also been a possibility but it would be highly unlikely, especially now when an engine is already available in GM’s roster that would offer everything the Silverado needs. Also, the only transmission of choice will now be GM’s new 8 speed automatic which will be available from the base 4.3 liter V6 all the way up to the top of the range V8.

2017 Chevrolet Silverado Price

The release date for the new model is expected to be at the next Detroit Auto Show in the early 2017 while the production truck will not hit the market until later that year.

Its price should remain constant, so expect it to start at $28,000 and go up to as far as $60,000 for a fully equipped model with all the luxury options ticked in.

The biggest rivals are Ford F150 and Dodge Ram.
