The biggest rival of Toyota Prius is the new 2017 Hyundai Prius Fighter. If you’re car-savvy, you have probably already heard of Hyundai Prius Fighter – an upcoming hybrid vehicle made by Korean manufacturer, poised to dethrone Toyota Prius from its hybrid cars throne.
Of course, car’s name is still unknown, and production model will certainly not be called Prius Fighter, or Koreans might have a few lawsuits to fight. Let’s, however, name this car 2017 Hyundai Prius Fighter for the sake of this article.
2017 Hyundai Prius Fighter Specs
Hyundai has managed to keep this car secret for a long time, and there are details which still can’t be discerned with complete accuracy. One of such details is powertrain. It looks like 2017 Hyundai Prius Fighter will combine 1.6L 4-cylinder internal combustion engine with electric motor and lithium-ion battery pack of undisclosed specifications. This means that we won’t know its total power output for a long time yet, but fuel efficiency should be sufficient to match or even surpass that of Prius.
Design – Inside and Outside look
Wedge-shaped design is the only thing we would have accepted as Prius’ competitor. Incidentally (or not), that’s exactly what 2017 Hyundai Prius Fighter looks like. While heavy camouflage still doesn’t reveal many things, we can certainly see that Hyundai’s future hybrid features a hunchback in the rear and low-set nose up front. We can only expect that it’ll include Hyundai’s modern grille, lights and creases, but we wouldn’t be disappointed if it didn’t. As long as it gets something else.
Interior is uncharted territory at this point. However, even though cabin might be a complete unknown, this doesn’t mean that we can’t imagine what it’ll look like. With a bit of pragmatic thinking, one could even pinpoint many of details with solid accuracy. For starters, 2017 Hyundai Prius Fighter might get a cabin layout of its own. This means that Hyundai’s handsome dashboard layout might skip this car, but who says they won’t come up with something better in the process.
Most models will likely offer cloth seats and might use recycled materials to further emphasize on “green” craze that has consumed the planet in last couple of decades. Tech list might not be the most advanced, one has ever seen, not even compared to in-house models. However, every Prius Fighter should receive a standard infotainment system with touch screen display and available navigation.
Safety features are another unknown. Prius doesn’t excel at this department, and there’s a good chance that Hyundai’s counterpart won’t fare any better either. However, this is a chance to put some pressure on Japanese hybrid icon, and it wouldn’t surprise us if Koreans took it.
2017 Hyundai Prius Fighter Price
Just like their intended competitor, Hyundai’s future true hybrid car should manage to accomplish around 50 mpg combined with ease. It should also be somewhat more affordable than Toyota’s model which puts its intended price tag below the $25,000 mark.
2017 Hyundai Prius Fighter is a car every true hybrid enthusiast should be excited about. As for ourselves – we can’t wait to see what kind of impact it will make. We also can’t wait to see if it’ll deliver better fuel economy figures than Prius. Finally, we can’t wait to see what its name will be in the end, even though we guess it won’t be as inspiring as Prius Fighter.
The key rivals are: Honda Insight and Toyota Prius.
