Jaguar’s F-Type is one of the most impressive super-cars on the market today because it is quite affordable, very powerful, easy to drive as well as extremely comfortable. However, while it does offer plenty of power, it is not the fastest car on the market or the fastest car Jaguar ever made.
In order to change that and get into the very exclusive “200MPH club”, Jaguar is going to release at the Geneva Auto Show the 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR, the high performance version of the F-Type. While the SVR brand might be new for some people, it should be nearly identical to the previous R-S version.
What’s new for 2017?
The platform, and chassis, of the car will remain unchanged from the F-Type R. However, Jaguar will add new brakes, a tweaked suspension system, new wheels and tires as well as an upgraded engine. Both the exterior and the interior of the car will receive tweaks and upgrades in order to make it a true top of the range model capable of competing with today’s super-cars.
Redesign – Changes and Advanced exterior
While the 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR is still a few weeks away from its official debut at Geneva, Jaguar did release a few pictures of a prototype which give us a good idea about how the car will look. The front end received a new bumper with large air-intakes on the sides, similar to that of the Project 7, a large front splitter, a new rear spoiler which should provided the needed downforce at high speeds as well as new lightweight wheels and performance tires. The car should also be offered in a couple of unique color options which will make it even more exclusive than the R.
Purist and authentic inside view
Inside the cabin, the SVR should be offering a nearly identical experience to the R or the lesser versions of the car, so don’t expect anything out of the ordinary. However, the car will receive a unique color scheme for the upholstery as an option as well as standard quilted-leather seats. On top of that, it will be offered as a coupe as well as a convertible, so it should meet everyone’s demands.
Under the Hood & Performance
In terms of performance, the 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR will get a re-tuned suspension system, larger carbon ceramic brakes with beefier brake calipers as well as a tweaked transmission. Jaguar still did not confirm if the car will also be available with all wheel drive but rumors say it will, so it should be quite interesting to see. The engine will be the same 5 liter supercharged V8 which is also found on the regular F-Type V8 or R models. However, this time around, the engine will make just as much as in the Project 7 meaning that the output will stay at 575 horsepower and 502 lb-ft of torque.
While the horsepower bump is only 25hp from the R model, thanks to it, the car should now be able to hit as much as 200 MPH and the extra added vents on the front should allow the engine to stay cooler during track conditions. The 0 to 60 MPH is still unknown at this point but rumors suggest it will hit 60 MPH in just 3.7 seconds. The cabriolet version of the car will “only” get to 194 MPH due to its cloth roof but it should get to 60 MPH in roughly the same time as the coupe.
2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR Price
In terms of price Jaguar did not say much so far but considering the upgrades they are going to do on the car, we expect it to cost around $25,000 more than the equivalent R model which would put the SVR at roughly $130,000, still a great price for a car with the capabilities of a super-car and the comfort of a luxury sedan.
The biggest competitors are: Aston Martin Vantage V12 S Roadster and Porsche 911 Turbo S.
