Even though Land Rover has decided that the time has come to stop with the production of the Defender, the British manufacturer decided that it has come the time to unveil the new Discovery. There were some reports suggesting that this model is in the works, but now finally the new 2017 Land Rover Discovery has been spotted while test driving United Kingdom.
The new Discovery will face lots of challenges, especially when you take in account how previous models were successful and now without the Defender in their line up, Land Rover is really counting on the new 2017 Land Rover to make a difference.
New Design – Exterior & Interior
When it comes to the design of the exterior, the new Land Rover Discovery will have the same sleek and curvy styling that was shown on the Discovery Vision Concept – a concept car that was shown at the 2014 New York Motor Show. The British manufacturer decided to make a risky move – an all-new 2017 Land Rover Discovery is not going to have that boxy look, for which this model was known (for 25 years Discovery had a box-like shape) and instead of that the new Discovery will have a sleek styling that looks more luxurious and premium.
This does not come as a surprise when you take in account that the British manufacturer wants their new 2017 Land Rover Discovery to compete with Audi Q7 and BMW X6.
The front of the car will have similar design to those Land Rover has used for a while now – angular headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights, low and wide black mesh front grille and a front bumper that sticks out in the front. The back of the car will have a big rear spoiler, LED taillights, rear bumper with a big rear diffuser and a chrome Discovery branding on the back door.
There are no images of the interior of the upcoming, but it is expected that the all-new 2017 Discovery will have an interior designed exclusively for it. The manufacturer has stated that the new Discovery will still offer seven seats, but the middle and rear row of seats will be configurable, to make this model as practical as possible. The reports suggest that lots of new features will be introduced, but the most interesting change will be the bigger touch screen display that will also come with update infotainment software.
The Engine range
It is not known, at the moment, which engines will be offered with the new Land Rover Discovery. However, experts believe that the most likely engines will be the 2.0l 4-cylinder Diesel (developed by Land Rover and Jaguar), a 3.0l supercharged V6 (used by Jaguar) and a hybrid powertrain that will combine a petrol engine and an electric motor. Reports suggest that the British manufacturer will most probably offer the new Discovery with only an automatic transmission.
2017 Land Rover Discovery Price
The price of the new Land Rover Discovery is not yet known, but it is expected to start at around $40,000.
The 2017 Land Rover Discovery should go on sale by the end of 2016.
The biggest competitiors: Jaguar C-X17 and Audi Q5.
