The upcoming Subaru’s SUV, named 2017 Subaru Tribeca will be available in US market with seven seats. The Tribeca was a mid-size crossover sold by Subaru between 2005 and 2014 but it was unfortunately discontinued because its odd styling and not that efficient engines made it a bad seller. However, because the Forester just doesn’t cut it considering how many different crossovers are out there, Subaru is going to release a successor for their mid-size offering.
The 2017 Subaru Tribeca is expected to be showcased to the public at the end of 2016 and considering that Subaru is already developing it, we could see a camouflaged car in the next few months.
Platform – Unlike the previous model which was based on the same platform as the Legacy, the upcoming model will be based on Subaru’s own modular platform which should also underpin their next generation Impreza and Forester. This platform means that the end result is going to be lighter, the engines will be more efficient and there will be more interior space.
New Design – Inside and Outside
The odd design of the old model will not come back on the 2017 Subaru Tribeca which should borrow some design cues from the upcoming Forester and even from the Impreza. The front end is certainly going to be a lot more distinctive looking than that of the older model which was simply too bland while the back of the car should make use of LED technology for its tail lights and on top of that it will likely get a dual exhaust system for all of its engines.
A high performance version with WRX underpinnings could also be possible in order to rival the German sport crossovers, especially now when the Tribeca will use the modular platform.
Inside the cabin there is going to be more room than before despite having a smaller exterior. This will be possible with a newly designed floor pan, new seats as well as a new suspension system which will be more compact than before. Five and seven seats versions of the car will be available and all of them should make use of more premium materials than usual. The equipment level will be similar to that of the Forester on the base models while the top end ones will get as standard leather upholstery, a satellite and infotainment system and all the safety features available.
Under the Hood & Specs
Engine wise, the old naturally aspirated 3.6 liter flat-6 is not likely going to return, especially considering its bad fuel consumption. In its place we could see a couple of new engines in order to give its customers two different versions, one aimed for those looking for fuel consumption and one for the performance oriented clients. The base model is likely going to make use of a hybrid powertrain which would combine the output of a naturally aspirated 2.5 liter flat-4 with a small electric motor housed in the transmission.
This could likely provide around 200 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque and thanks to a CVT transmission, the 2017 Subaru Tribeca could offer more than 36 MPG on the highway and around 30 MPG on average which would be really impressive for a medium size crossover.
The higher performance version of it would on the other hand use a turbocharged 2.5 liter flat-4 which would provide up to 300 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque. This would send all that power to a specifically tuned all wheel drive system via a new transmission that will be able to handle all that power and offer the driver a good amount of feedback from the engine.
2017 Subaru Tribeca Price & Selling
However, the car will not be ready for sale until the early 2017 and even when it will hit the market, we do expect it to cost at least $31,000, price point that it very competitive for now and it will get even more competitive in the future.
According to the some reports, the new 2017 Tribeca will have an exclusive debut in US market.
The biggest rivals are Honda CRV and Lincoln MKX.
