2018 Cadillac XT3 – new design and features. Cadillac is heading towards a complete nomenclature overhaul, and it’s no wonder since Johan de Nyscchen has been given a contract as Caddy’s boss. He has already done the same during his mandate in Infiniti, but that’s not the only reason for a change. American manufacturer is planning on expanding its portfolio and in order to offer a few additional models, they had to resort to this move.
2018 Cadillac XT3 will be their compact crossover which should compete with the likes of Audi Q3, BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC.
The Engine – predictions
While it is still too early to talk drivetrains at this point, 2018 Cadillac XT3 should be offered with at least one turbo four unit which delivers more than 200 horses and pound feet of torque alike. Unlike it’s future competitors, however, XT3 will be rear-wheel driven, but all-wheel drive will be offered as well, naturally. 6-speed automatics look like the best bet at this point, but later on, 8-speed automatics will certainly be more widespread, hence, probably standard in most Cadillac’s.
|The Engine range|
|Combined output||220 HP|
|0-60 time||7.5 sec.|
|Top Speed||130 mph|
Design – Inside & Outside look
XT3 will be assembled at GM’s Orion plant together with Chevy Bolt and other Detroit-based maker’s small cars. Being a compact crossover, 2018 Cadillac XT3 will still feature a few details taken straight from larger SRX and much larger Escalade, even. It is going to adopt American luxury maker’s next-gen design language which is supposed to make it much more appealing to younger audience. Being somewhat more affordable at the same time, that looks like a sound strategy. While wedge shape remains car’s best bet at this point, we guess that whole XT lineup is going to be much sharper than what’s currently offered at Cadillac’s dealers.
Interior design of the new Caddy models still has a long way to go before being presented, but at least we know what to expect in terms of refinement. All XT3 models will offer leather seating surfaces, and some interior inlays, most likely in metallic paint or wood. However, as a compact, 2018 Cadillac XT3 won’t be exactly lavish with both materials choices and available features. Even the seat heaters will likely be optional – at least rear ones will. Touch screen display will be offered from the get-go, however, but you’ll likely have to buy navigation and other advanced packages separately. Finally, advanced sound system will be optional as well, but advanced connectivity features might be more flexible.
Safety systems might become more advanced by the time XT3 comes to the dealers in 2018. Considering that small crossovers are more and more popular by the day, this segment might offer a good chance for some manufacturers to take certain advantages. Even mandatory equipment will be bolstered by additional airbags, but most important will be advanced safety gear. This is where 2018 Cadillac XT3 should offer a rearview or even surround-view camera, blind-spot information system and radar sensors both at front and around the back.
2018 Cadillac XT3 Price
Fuel efficiency is a category which we won’t try to pinpoint. Four cylinder engine should be good enough for respectable figures, but one can never expect class-leading numbers from a luxury car. Prices should find themselves in a region around $35,000. Entry-level models might be slightly more affordable than that, but top grades will certainly cost more than $40,000 – possibly much more.
2018 Cadillac XT3 is supposed to fill one of the vacant spots which American luxury car maker’s lineup features at this point. Small crossover is supposed to be contemporary, refined and efficient at the same time, but it still remains to be seen what kind of balance of the three will Cadillac choose.
The biggest rivals are Audi Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class.
