According to Automotive News, the upcoming 2018 Ford Mustang will be redesigned. The current Mustang has been released only a year ago but Ford is already planning a rather large update for the car in order to keep it at the top of its class. The 2018 Ford Mustang is expected to be released as a mid-life update which will include a couple of new trim levels for the car, possibly new engines as well as a new look.
The chassis will remain the same though but the suspension system might get a few upgrades in order to make it a bit better to drive and also more comfortable.
The Engine range & Performance
The current 350 and 350R are going to be carried over to the 2018 Ford Mustang as well and we don’t think that these two models will get any major changes done to them except maybe a few design tweaks. However, Ford will release a GT500 model which is expected to become the most powerful Mustang ever made. This could sport a newly developed 5.2 liter V8 which could offer in excess of 700 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque which would be enough to allow the car to compete with the Hellcat models.
The other new trim level which will be added to the range is going to be the Mach 1 which will be inspired by the original model of the Mustang. It is unclear what type of engine it will get but many say the trim level will be available with either a 5 liter naturally aspirated V8 or with a 3.5 liter EcoBoost which would be a new addition to the range. Also, the usual base Mustang models will not be sold with the current 3.7 liter V6 but instead these should receive a rather more impressive 2.7 liter EcoBoost which will not only get more power but it should also offer a lot more torque and better fuel economy as well.
Just like with the current model, most models will receive a 6 speed manual as standard but instead of the old 6 speed automatic, the car will now receive a 10 speed unit which has been in development for some time already.
Refreshed design – Inside and Outside
In terms of design things are going to become a little more interesting. While the actual design language is expected to remain unchanged, the 2018 Ford Mustang will likely get the same traits as the 350 and 350R models. This means that the base model will also get the lower front end with the slightly lower headlights and more aggressive stance and on top of that, the Mach 1 as well as the GT500, will receive unique body kits which will improve their stability at high speed and it will make them look a lot more aggressive than the base models.
Inside the cabin the new Mustang is going to be very similar to what we have now. However, we expect the car to receive an all new infotainment system as well as slightly better materials and better built quality. This should get rid of the squeaks and rattles of the current generation and it should make for a more comfortable cabin during cross-country driving.
2018 Ford Mustang Release date & Price
At this point in time there are very few details about the upcoming Mustang but it seems that Ford might release it at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show and they could sell the car starting with the late of 2017.
The price will likely remain similar to the current model meaning the base models will start at little under $25,000 while a fully equipped or high performance version of the car will go past $140,000 with ease. This time around though, Ford will have more high performance versions of the car, aimed at completely different people.
