2018 Jeep Wrangler – biggest changes

The upcoming 2018 Jeep Wrangler is a next-generation of off-road vehicle. Based on spy photos new Wrangler will be offered on the market in two versions, two and four – door. The current Wrangler has been around for some time now and a new model is in the works for at least a few years. While there aren’t any official details available about the new car, so far we managed to see a few models on the road, all of them with heavy camouflage on them.

A while ago an official statement also told us about what we can expect from the new 2018 Jeep Wrangler and the list is actually quite impressive, the only problem we’ve seen there being the removal of the detachable windscreen which was great in off-road where people usually want to protect the doors and the windows.

What’s new for 2018?

Unlike what most people said, the upcoming Wrangler will actually remain a body-on-frame design which means it will be just as rugged as before. The chassis on the other hand will lose quite a few pounds thanks to a high strength steel construction and together with a full aluminum body, it could mean that the upcoming Wrangler will be at least 500 pounds lighter than the ongoing generation.

The top end versions on the other hand could benefit of beefier axles and suspension components in order to increase their off-road prowess.

But, one of the biggest issues and the same time challenge for the new Wrangler, is improving of fuel efficiency.

Under the Hood – Engine

Engine wise, the 2018 Jeep Wrangler will be using a similar powertrain to the current model. This is a bit disappointing because early rumors suggested a 3.0 liter twin-turbocharged V6 instead of the current 3.6 liter naturally aspirated unit but considering the Pentastar has been refreshed quite recently then it is safe to assume that the new Wrangler will get that version as well. This means that it will make around 310 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque which is only marginally better than before.

Also, for the first time on the US market, the Wrangler will be offered with a 3.0 liter turbocharged inline 4 diesel which is going to offer around 200 horsepower and more than 400 lb-ft of torque. While this may not seem like all that much, it might be the perfect off-road powertrain due to the fact it will offer most of that torque at really low down the rev range.

Both engines will be offered with a new 8 speed automatic gearbox and a standard four wheel drive system. Options will include lockable differentials in the front and at the back as well as beefier axles, making the Wrangler the perfect choice for those looking for an all terrain machine.

Redesign – Inside and Outside look

The design is still an unknown factor, especially since the spied model was pretty much a development mule which used the bodywork of the ongoing model. However, we are pretty sure that the basic design scheme will be kept pretty much unchanged so the boxy look of the Wrangler as well as the off-road features should be carried over pretty much unchanged. So far we also know that the convertible model will only get a hardtop instead of the previous soft-top in order to make it safer in the eventuality of a crash.

On the interior, the 2018 Jeep Wrangler will get an all new interior which will not feature the boxy and unappealing look of the older model. Instead, Jeep will design an all new interior from scratch which will make the passenger’s lives easier as well as more entertaining. As standard it will come with five seats, all of them being covered in a dirt resistant material. The dashboard on the other hand will get a soft-touch plastic as well as bigger buttons than usual in order to allow the driver to operate the car while wearing gloves.

2018 Jeep Wrangler Release date

However, the Jeep Wrangler pickup is expected later in 2017 as part of the 2018 Wrangler freshen, so maybe greater than a year prior to we obtain any type of concrete details on this long-anticipated Trail Rated pick-up. The release will likely happen at the Detroit Auto Show in 2017 and the price should be around $25,000 for a base model.

These details about price are unconfirmed, so we expect officially information until first half of the next year.
